WHAT A GOOD SERVICE!
I didn't go to my usual church today, but visited another. I'd have to admit that I really felt at peace. It was so nice not having to sit through a service where you are constantly bombarded with "God is going to give you a house, a business, a spouse" only to see that never come to fruition. The sermon spoke of healing the inner man/woman from emotional hurts. That is what we need in Christendom. I simply cannot stomach one more "God is going to give...?" What's next? God is going to give you $100 million in 10 days? Allow me to make myself abundantly clear when I say I'd love for God to do that. However, spiritual reason and logic says it won't happen. Contrary to popular belief, God does make sense, sometimes that is. LOLFor example, my tire was flattened 2 weeks ago. I was driving on the parkway to church when I noticed a strange noise and a lopsidedness that I hadn't seen before. A so-called still small voice said to me (paraphrasing), there is nothing wrong with your car. I foolishly kept driving for about 2-3 minutes. A passing motorist motioned to me pointing toward my tire. I waved in thanks and pulled over. It was then that I noticed my flat tire.
Where am I going with this? Sometimes we mistake our own thoughts for the voice of the Holy Spirit. Other times, we are so caught up in a "spirit world" (note the quotes), that we fail to use the common sense that God gave us. If we focus on following the teachings of Christ, as we should, we would not get so caught up in what God can give us. Personally, I don't need one more preacher to tell me what blessing God is going to give me. I certainly don't want one telling me that God is going to make me president of the United States when nothing of the sort will happen. You get the picture. As I said before, sometimes God makes sense.
But then, there are still the questions and frustrations with the Christianity that has been presented to me. God, I am sure, is not intimidated by my questions. Why should anyone else be? Gee, what question/frustration will I include in this blog next?
Until next time...
